APATA urges MP to resolve Visakhapatnam airport issue

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Air Travelers Association has urged the Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu to resolve the issue of Navy’s restrictionsfor civil airlines at Visakhapatnam airport at the earliest.

APATA office bearers O Naresh Kumar, DS Varma and Dr Kumar Raja met the MP on Friday and explained the urgency for resolving the issue.
Although the Navy restrictions will come into effect from November 1 this year, the airlines need to announce their winter schedule at least 90 days in advance to facilitate the passengers to book the tickets at reasonable price, they pointed out. The decision regarding the Navy restrictions on civil airlines would force the airlines to reschedule their airlines to other cities where air traffic is higher and there is a need to facilitate the airlines to plan their winter schedules to help passengers to buy tickets in advance, they said.

Dr. Haribabu informed them that he had already written a letter to the Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, and that he would also write to the Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu regarding the matter. The MP said he would be shortly convene a meeting with the Chief of ENC and other officials for early resolution, and later meet the Defence Minister personally for resolving the issue at the earliest.
