Deloitte audit of AirAsia India implicating ex-CEO Mittu Chandilya under lens

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu’s 2016 audit of AirAsia India, mired in corruption allegations, has come under the scanner of the country’s investigating agencies, said people with knowledge of the matter.
The Malaysia-based AirAsia group, its chief executive Tony Fernandes and others have been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of criminal conspiracy under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing allegations of money laundering.
In its audit, Deloitte had alleged financial bungling at AirAsia India, implicating former CEO Mittu Chandilya. Deloitte last week handed over hard disks and relevant information pertaining to the audit it had conducted to the probe agencies, said the people cited above. ET was the first to report on the Deloitte report in November 2016.

During search operations carried out by the CBI last month, various documents were confiscated by the agency. As per available information, the agencies will compare the screenshots taken by Deloitte as part of its audit with the information in the laptop belonging to the former CEO. Chandilya has repeatedly denied the allegations against him and had moved court in 2016 seeking damages against AirAsia and Deloitte.
