Gold worth Rs 60 lakh seized from two passengers at Chennai airport

Chennai: Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 60 lakh from two passengers at Anna International Airport here on Tuesday.
In the first case, Shahul Hameed, 38, who holds an Indian passport, arrived here from Sharjah in an Air Arabia flight. He was intercepted at the exit of the arrival hall.
During examination of his checked-in baggage, officials found 29 gold cut bits – of 24 karat purity. The gold bits totally weighed 1,513 grams and were worth Rs 46.7 lakh.
They were wrapped around a laptop adapter with black colour adhesive tape. The passenger was arrested.
In the second case, Mohamed Farook,44, who holds an Indian passport, arrived here from Dubai in an Emirates flight. He was intercepted at the exit of the arrival hall.
