Jaipur: The old terminal of Jaipur Airport known as Terminal 1 is being revived and preparations are going on to make it operational by March 2019. The plan is to operate the international flights from there while the domestic flights will continue from Terminal 2. Airport director Jaydeep Balhara reviewed the Terminal 1 and discussed the plan with the officials.
The airport officials informed that the tender process is being started and the execution of the plan will begin by September third week and it will be ready by March 2019. The tender process is being started now and it’s expected that after March 2019, flight operations will begin, informed the officials.
Currently, about 60 flights are operated daily from Jaipur airport and many more may be added in coming months because the passenger load which the current terminal sees is huge, said the sources. During the morning time when many flights depart there is heavy rush in the lobby of the T2 causing much convenience to the passengers.
In the last few years, the number of passengers travelling through Jaipur airport has increased tremendously while the terminal and runways remain the same. In 2014-15, 2208305 passengers travelled through the airport, in 2015-16 the number increased to 2904350 passengers. In 2016-17 there was further increase and 3805711 passengers travelled.
