Mangaluru: Reports about 'landslide' at MIA false, all operations normal, says airport director

Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) director V V Rao on Tuesday June 5 issued a statement dismissing reports of a ‘landslide at airport’ and ‘crack on runway’ news as mere rumours.

A few Kannada news channels ran news segments claiming that the retaining wall of the Mangalore Airport’s runway near Kolambe village had collapsed due to the heavy rains that lashed Mangaluru last week. The channels also claimed that the airport had not stopped operations, and was hence risking the life of passengers.

The channels went on to claim that in spite of the locals informing about the landslide to the airport authorities, the officials had not bothered to rectify the situation.

However, Mangaluru Airport director V V Rao issued a clarification stating, "It is clarified that all operations at Mangaluru International Airport are normal. Some wrong and vague information is being shown in media and TV regarding Mangaluru International Airport. Public are hereby requested not to give ear to this rumour."
