Visakhapatnam: The Indian Navy has reportedly decided to implement proposed military slots at the Visakhapatnam International Airport from November 1.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Indian Navy officials, airline operators and airport authorities on June 2. Accordng to reports, the proposal was given the final nod during the meeting held in New Delhi on June 15.
The decision comes amid uproar from various organisations, who have opposed the move.
Sources said that the Navy would operate its flights from 9.30am to 12.30 noon on Monday to Friday and mixed operations for existing civil flights and military flights from 7 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Airline operators have been asked not to add any new flights during this period. The runway would be shut down for maintenance from 9.30 am to 11.30 am on Saturday and Sunday.
Following this, Jet Airways has reportedly removed its newly-proposed flight service from Vizag to Delhi at 8.30pm from its website. Sri Lankan airways, too, has reduced its 4-day week flight service to 3-day week following the proposal.
