A special NIA court on Thursday rejected interim bail to Mumbai jeweller Birju Salla accused of placing a threat letter in toilet of Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways flight. Salla had sought 30 days bail for treatment of his wife Ishika Salla. Salla in his bail plea said his wife was diagnosed with uterine tumour and needed surgery urgently and he needed to take care of her and arrange money for her surgery. Salla’s regular bail pleas were also earlier rejected by the NIA court and high court.
Salla had allegedly put a letter warning of a hijack and bomb threat in the washroom of the plane on October 30, 2017, to get his girlfriend, who worked as airhostess in the airline, back. The high profile jeweller faces life imprisonment after he became the first person in the country to be booked under the Anti-Hijacking Act. He recently became the first man to be put on the no-fly list. The no-fly-list is a central database of unruly or disruptive passengers.
