This airport will make sure you don’t lose time in queues

New Delhi: Imagine if a mobile application could guide you from your doorstep till the gate of the flight, and saving you from long queues. At the airport, you could use advanced passport control kiosks and a self bag-tag system to expedite the process further. All of this could soon be a reality at a new airport in Istanbul, Turkey, scheduled to open on October 29 — the country’s 95th Republic Day.
“While giving indoor directions, the app will calculate the time taken by a passenger to reach the flight gate. A new bag-drop system and self bag-tag kiosks, which will let you generate a label for your bag using your boarding pass, will substantially reduce the time spent in queues”, said the spokesperson for the new airport, which is being built by iGA.
The airport will be spread over about 77 million square metres, more than three times the area of Delhi’s IGI Airport — which is nearly 21 milion square metres. “We will also have biometric screening and more than 500 check-in points to speed up the process,” the spokesperson said.
He added, “The mobile app is good for people who like shopping at airports…users will get notifications for exclusive offers they are eligible for based on their flight and its time. They can see all products and even pay for them using the app.”
