TVS tollgate to get vertical garden as part of airport facelift

Trichy: Trichy Corporation has proposed a beautification drive at TVS tollgate and Pudukottai Road, which is considered as the gateway to access Trichy International Airport. The civic body has obtained the required permission from stakeholders including state and national highways to raise a vertical garden facility with creepers to reduce the carbon emissions as well as give a green welcome for tourists entering the city.
Trichy city witnesses at least three lakh floating population on an average on any given day, as it serves as a hub for roadways, railways and airways. With tourists and visitors heading to central districts through the city, Trichy’s gateways, including TVS tollgate reels under the menace of open urination and posters spamming the walls. TVS tollgate, a junction where vehicles heading to Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Chennai, Madurai and Trichy meet, the pillars of flyover on Chennai-Madurai national highway and also the compound wall of SETC bus depot diagonally opposite to Jamal Mohamed College stink due to poor sanitation and lack of support among public.
“At least 4,500 passengers visit Trichy International Airport every day. Such footfall would also attract the friends and families of air users to send off and receive them.
TVS tollgate being the gateway for airport should be beautified to project Trichy as clean and green city among incoming visitors,” H Ubaidullah, independent aviation analyst said.
