New Delhi: In a blatant error and gross violation of sexual harassment norms, the Union Ministry for Women and Child Development released the name of a victim of sexual harassment in its press note after she met with Union Minister Maneka Gandhi.
The victim is an air hostess with the national carrier Air India. She alleged she was sexually harassed by a senior executive of the airlines for the past six years.
The press note was later replaced with a new version that did not carry the air hostess's name.
The woman has been writing to both Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu and Maneka Gandhi since late last month alleging the internal complaints committee formed in the wake of her complaint last year has been allegedly trying to brush the matter under the carpet.
In what can be seen as gross violation of sexual harassment norms, the Union Ministry for Women and Child Development released the name of a victim of sexual harassment in its press note after she met with Union Minister Maneka Gandhi.
While the victim was unwilling to speak to the media after her meeting with Maneka Gandhi and requested them not to take her pictures, the ministry released a statement at 12:42 pm this afternoon which read, "Ms. XYZ (IndiaToday.in is withholding the name), who is working with Air India met Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Minister for Women and Child Development regarding her complaint under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013."
