A-320 Neo Pratt engine troubles return, now IndiGo grounds at least five planes

New Delhi: Low cost carrier IndiGo has grounded at least five of its Airbus A-320 Neos in the latest round of unending snags with the Pratt & Whitey (PW) engines powering these planes. Parked in Delhi, these planes are now expected to fly by middle of next month when they get replacement engines.
“IndiGo confirms that a few A320 Neos have been taken out of service proactively and await spare engines from PW. The release of additional spare engines has been initiated by PW so that all aircraft are expected to be back in service in the second half of August,” IndiGo said in a statement without disclosing the exact number of new engine option (Neo) A-320s grounded now. And whether these groundings will lead to any disruption in schedule.
While is learnt the planes were grounded after a repeat of unending problems faced earlier too like inflight shutdowns, a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official said: “We have laid out a strict schedule for carrying out regular checks on PW engines powering the A-320 Neos. Regular boroscopic checks revealed trouble with the engines due to which the same need to be changed. PW has given a schedule to IndiGo for supplying replacement engines.”
