Airport sees opportunity in Vistara expansion

Chennai: Vistara’s plans for expansion and attempts to set up a hub at an airport other than New Delhi for international operations may open an opportunity for Chennai airport.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to pitch for Vistara, which has announced plans to purchase 19 planes and to have a second hub, to put it up at the Chennai airport.
Airport director G Chandramouli said, “If Chennai fits into Vistara’s strategy for international expansion, we will speak to them and will encourage them to set up a hub in Chennai. Once the central apron is ready and expanded, we will be able to ask airlines to set up their hubs. We have already asked Vistara to start more domestic flights from Chennai”. The airline currently flies to Delhi, Kochi, Kolkata and Port Blair.
