Chennai: : Chennai airport may be handling more international passenger traffic but when it comes to choice of destinations and easy connections, Hyderabad and Bengaluru offer more options.
There are direct flights to Amsterdam and Chicago from Bengaluru and an easy connection via New Delhi to Washington from Hyderabad besides direct flights to Chicago, Kuwait and Medina.
Chennai has not been able to capitalise on its position as a gateway for international traffic and the two competing metros have started more flights to Muscat, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jeddah. Hyderabad’s international passenger traffic grew at 9% last year while Chennai grew by 6%. Bengaluru has caught up with Chennai in growth.
