Man held at Kolkata airport for smuggling powdered gold mixed with health supplements

Kolkata: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) arrested a middle-aged man at Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Bose airport for trying to smuggle powdered gold worth nearly Rs 30 lakh last night.

The accused, travelling from Dubai via an Emirates flight, was caught carrying the gold in dust form mixed with health supplements.

While searching his check-in baggage, the AIU found three health supplement containers. The officials then extracted the gold into two rectangular bars, each having the purity of 24 karats weighing 970 grams.
