Madurai: Officials from customs department seized gold bars weighing 2 kg left behind by a smuggler in an aircraft at Madurai airport on Friday. The seizure was made from a flight which arrived from Dubai. The worth of the gold is estimated to be Rs 57 lakh.
Officials said the flight crew alerted them after seeing an unclaimed baggage under a seat. When checked, they found gold bars. Based on the alert, a team of customs officials reached the spot and seized the gold. They also searched if any other consignment was left behind.
