AAI finally issues tender for soil testing

Surat: Faced with mounting pressure from the elected representatives, airport and Right To Information (RTI) activists, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has finally decided to take a step further to complete the long-pending infrastructure work related to apron, terminal extension and parallel taxiway.
The AAI has issued a tender inviting applications from consultants to carry out soil testing for the holistic development of Surat airport, including extension of apron, terminal building and the construction of parallel taxiway, on August 4.
The TOI had carried an article dated July 25, 2018, highlighting the district administration’s decision to cancel the acquisition of land for extension of runway at Surat airport citing the reason of buried sour gas pipelines of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and the Gujarat Petronet Limited (GSPL) passing from the land near the airport.
