Air India And Ethiopian Expands Codeshare

Air India and Ethiopian Airlines, both members of Star Alliance and with an extensive network in their home countries, have agreed to strengthen their cooperation by expanding the current free-sale codeshare agreement, thereby allowing Air India to access Ethiopian Airlines’ network in Africa and Ethiopian Airlines to access Air India’s network in Australia and Hong Kong, in addition to the Indian domestic points, thus creating smooth connections at their respective hubs.

The partnership between Air India and Ethiopian Airlines, commenced in 2011, had a humble beginning with only three sectors. Today this code share partnership has witnessed a huge leap and includes 14 sectors each, on the services of either airlines. Today AI and ET have their common codes on 28 sectors, stretching from India to entire Africa and further to Hong Kong and Australia in Far East. The expanded codeshare agreement between the two carriers enables the customers to enjoy better connectivity options and plays a significant role in enhancing investment and commercial ties.

Tadesse Tilahun, Regional Director for Indian subcontinent, Ethiopian Airlines said, “The expanded codeshare cooperation between Ethiopian Airlines and Air India, gives seamless connection to our esteemed customers. He added, on top of the seamless connection, passengers will get more benefits such as accruing their miles as both airlines belong to the largest airlines alliance – Star alliance.”
