Airport gets 600 new trolleys to help manage Puja footfall

Kolkata: To cope up with the passenger influx during the upcoming festive season, a new set of 600 trolleys arrived at Kolkata airport on Saturday. Airport officials said the consignment was part of a 4,000-trolley supply deal with Mumbai-based Delite Systems Engineering Pvt Ltd, which has so far delivered 3,100 new trolleys — including the batch delivered on Saturday.
“The rest of the consignment is expected to reach the airport by the end of this year. The new trolleys will help us manage the increase in passenger count because of the Pujas and other festivities,” said an airport official.
The airport still has around 700 functional old trolleys. The new trolleys are lighter and more manoeuvrable because of the aircraft nosewheel-like design and look better than the older ones. However, passengers complained that the new trolleys were unstable and airport officials claimed that over 100 new trolleys have already been grounded because of disfigured wheels.
