Airport’s amenities fail to live up to passenger traffic

Pune: The flyers’ overall experience at the Pune airport has gone up a notch, but a lot more is desired.
This was revealed in the second quarter (April-June) survey of the airport conducted by the Airports Council International (ACI).
During the surveyed period, the airport stayed in the negative zone on 23 of the 33 parameters when compared to the previous three months — January to March. The parameters included parking facilities, inspections, waiting time, flight information, shopping facilities and availability and cleanliness of washrooms, among others.

On the bright side, the airport scored on parameters like availability of trolleys, restaurants and eating facility, customs inspection among others.

“The good thing is that the airport has improved on overall satisfaction scale of flyers. There are some issues, but the Airports Authority of India (AAI) cannot be solely held responsible for them. There are other stakeholders like the airlines, customs officials, CISF who too are involved. The airport is showing exponential growth and the passenger traffic has grown significantly, making it one of the busiest airports in the country. However, in terms of services, we have improved and more work is being done,” an airport official said.
