Airstrip to come up in Kuppam soon

Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s Assembly constituency Kuppam will soon have an airstrip instead of an airport as was planned earlier.
It was the brainchild of Naidu to have a green field airport in the remote area of the district Kuppam so that people from surrounding places can reach Tirupati international airport easily and send their exports to any other places.

But ministries concerned, Defence and Civil Aviation, have turned down the proposal to issue no objection certificate (NOC) and other approvals citing Bengaluru International Airport, which is in 150 km range as the major reason.

Upset with the Centre’s attitude, the State government has decided to go with building an airstrip in place of greenfield airport with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore. The government believes that this move will induce exports from the region.
