Chennai airport saw just two cases of baggage theft in past 4 years

Chennai:  The city airport may be facing the flak from passengers for poor service but when it comes to preventing baggage theft, it seems to be faring better than Delhi and Mumbai.
Statistics presented in the Parliament shows that there were just two cases of baggage theft at Chennai airport in the past four years. Both cases were reported in 2015. Meanwhile, three cases were reported in Bengaluru, 34 in Hyderabad, 144 in Delhi and 40 in Mumbai. In 2012 to 2015, nine cases of baggage theft were reported at Chennai airport — one in 2012, seven in 2014 and one in 2015.
A senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said such cases had become rare because of the steps taken to monitor the baggage handling area in the basement and the training given to workers appointed by the ground handling company.
