First batch of haj pilgrims returns home

Gaya:  The first batch of 150 haj pilgrims from Bihar, 46 of them women, arrived at the Gaya international airport by a special Air India flight on Tuesday afternoon.
Scheduled for 2.15pm, the flight landed about 75 minutes late at 3.30pm. The pilgrims who returned hail from eight districts of the state, including Patna and Darbhanga. Sources said arrangements had been made to escort the pilgrims to the state capital in airconditioned buses under police escort.
The pilgrims were received at the airport by state minority welfare minister Khurshid Ahmad, State Haj Committee chief Mohd Iliyas and Gaya DM Abhishek Singh. All the 4,798 pilgrims from the state will come back in the next two weeks. The last batch of pilgrims will be reaching Gaya on September 11.
