Dum Dum: Calcutta airport has belatedly realised that a leaking roof demands an engineering solution rather than buckets and tubs strategically placed on its granite floors to collect rainwater.
The plan, proposed at least six years ago but inexplicably kept on hold, is to create a network of service walkways along the rim of the roof and across the structure so that the surface is not damaged when workers need to go there with heavy equipment.
The walkways will be integrated iron structures around a metre wide, enough for a team of workers to walk single file. There will be railings on the side for their safety.
