Jabalpur airport to be upgraded

Airports authority of India (AAI) has begun the process of upgrading Jabalpur airport to provide better services to flyers of the region. Union minister of commerce & industry and civil aviation Suresh Prabhu recently laid the foundation stone.

Jabalpur is a growing industrial city with promising tourism options. AAI anticipated the rise in passenger traffic and consequently proposed the expansion plan to accommodate larger aircraft and upgradation of the terminal with modern facilities.

The airport will be built at a total cost of Rs 413 crores. The newly transformed airport will include construction of new domestic passenger terminal building with enhanced peak hour handing capacity of 500 passengers from existing 150 passengers. With increased runway length of 2750 metres with turning pad, the airport will be suitable for operations of A-320 type of aircraft.
