Kerala flood toll on tour plans

Calcutta: Calcuttans are scrapping their plans to visit Kerala in the aftermath of the devastating floods that have killed at least 324 people in the southern state famous for its scenic beaches, enchanting backwaters and idyllic hills.

Puja bookings to Kerala, one of the most popular holiday destinations among Calcuttans, are "very low" and tour operators are fearing a further dip if the situation does not improve.

Air fares to Kerala for the Puja season are 25 to 30 per cent lower than what they usually are around this time of the year. People are looking for alternative destinations, tour operators said.

The Kochi airport has been closed till August 26.
