Monitoring flight fares in 32 routes, Kochin naval base to start civilian operation Monday, says Suresh Prabhu

Union civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday took to Twitter to inform that the airlines have been advised to keep prices of flights going to and from Kerala at as low as possible. Prabhu said, "Airlines have been advised to cap the maximum fare around Rs 10,000 for longer routes and around Rs 8,000 for shorter routes to/from Kerala and nearby airports."

He further informed, "DGCA is constantly monitoring airfares on 32 direct routes operating to/from Trivandrum, Calicut, Coimbatore & Mangalore. Monitoring done on Aug 18 has revealed that maximum fares on the shorter routes ranged from Rs 3034 to Rs 8000 and Rs 4757 to around Rs 10000 for longer routes."

Suresh Prabhu said that a Joint team comprising representatives from DGCA, BCAS, CISF, AAI and Indian Navy also carried out inspection of Cochin Naval Base on Sunday to check the feasibility of scheduled operations from the area. "Steps are being taken to start operations with ATR-72 from Monday, 20th August", he assured.
