New terminal building to flaunt GRIHA-4 tag

Pune: The new terminal building of the Pune international airport will be Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment-4 (GRIHA-4) compliant, senior officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said.
The authorities claimed that the environmental clearance for the project was expected within a month.

A public hearing on the environmental impact assessment of the new terminal building was held on Wednesday. The Pune airport director Ajay Kumar told TOI that the AAI has undertaken an effort to ensure green measures in the existing facility too.

“The new terminal structure will incorporate various green building features. During the public hearing today, the team of officials did not show any serious environmental concern. Some of the concerns pertained to the safety of the building from flooding and real-time monitoring of environmental parameters. Pune is the only airport to have installed four air pollution controller machines on its premises and their number will increase by December,” said Kumar.
