No immediate relief from airport queues

Pune: Officials at the Lohegaon airport said passengers will have to put up with serpentine queues at the check-in and security counters for the time being.
They said the situation cannot be helped due to bunching or excessive number of flights at certain time of the day. A solution will be available in October, when a new apron is commissioned. “For now, it cannot be avoided. All the parking bays that we have are occupied during in the evening hours. In daytime, most bays are kept vacant due to the restrictions of the Indian air force. We operate under heavy pressure in the mornings and evenings. In a two-hour window, we have 14 scheduled flights, so the security counters operate at capacity,” an official said.
Several passengers have taken to social media to voice their frustration at the situation. The airport recently boasted of an increased number of check-in counters. At the moment, the facility has around 38 check-in counters and 15 self check-in kiosks, all of them being common to all airlines.
