Rescheduling of flights causing hardship to air passengers

Kozhikode: The 15-day shutdown of Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) due to flooding may have brought a windfall for the Calicut International Airport as several flights were rerouted to Kozhikode.
But the rescheduling of flights from the Kochi airport has led to overcrowding and is causing hardships to passengers flying out of the Calicut airport. One of the reasons cited is the overbooking of flights, especially those operating to Middle East destinations as schools are reopening after the summer vacation in the Gulf countries.
A senior Airports Authority of India official told The Hindu that the situation would be back to normal in a week. Airline companies have directed passengers to travel via Calicut airport until things are streamlined at the Kochi airport. Air India Express, which flies to various destinations in the country, are usually delayed. “Sometimes even a scheduled flight to Muscat in the evening was rescheduled to the next forenoon,” B. Ajay, a passenger who had a harrowing experience, said.
