Some A-320 Neos grounded due to 'non-availability of Pratt spare engines': IndiGo

New Delhi: The groundings of Airbus A-320 Neos due to faulty and damaged Pratt & Whitney (PW) awaiting replacement seems to be getting worse. IndiGo on Thursday said some of its Neos “have been grounded proactively due to non-availability of spare engines from PW”. About eight of IndiGo’s new engine option (Neo) A-320s are learnt to be grounded currently along with two of GoAir, taking the number of planes waiting engine replacement to 10.

In India, IndiGo and GoAir use PW engines on their Neos. IndiGo has seen a spate of PW engine snags in recent days with even a brand new engine which had done barely 50 hours developing a snag during a flight.

“IndiGo confirms that a few A-320 Neo aircraft have been grounded proactively due to non-availability of spare engines from PW. The release of additional spare engines has been initiated by PW so that all aircraft can be expected to be in service soon. These engine changes are pre-planned and are as per the norms prescribed by the regulator to ensure safe operations,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
