Afghan man caught at Delhi airport for gold smuggling

New Delhi: An Afghan man has been arrested by the customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs 45 lakh at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here, according to an official statement issued today.

The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Kabul yesterday.

A detailed examination of his hand baggage resulted in recovery of multiple rings of gold coated with dark grey colour and concealed ingeniously in decorative household items made of alloy metal, it said.

The gold, total weighing 1.5 kg and valued at Rs 45.33 lakh, has been seized, the statement issued by the customs said.
