New Delhi: Air passengers will get tea and snacks at maximum retail price (MRP) at government-run airports in the country. According to Air India officials, several counters have already started offering bottled water and other beverages at affordable prices to the customers, reported news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).Passengers have been complaining for some time now about outrageous prices of food and beverages at airport terminals. Several MPs have also raised this issue. Former finance minister P.Chidambaram even vented his irritation over the sky-high price of a cup of tea at Chennai Airport on micro-blogging site Twitter. The agency report cited the AAI officials saying that more than 90 counters across Indian except for cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru which are managed by private players will offer this facility.
AAI official was quoted in the report saying, "These days, air travel hasn't remained confined to the elite only. People from all segments of the society travelling by air especially after the UDAN scheme was launched but have limited options when paying a premium for tea and snacks at the airport. The counters will bring a relief to them."
