Custom officials seize gold at Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru: A 50-year-old man has been arrested by the custom sleuths at Kempegowda International Airport for allegedly smuggling gold from Bahrain on Thursday morning.

The arrested man has been identified as Kottambadi Ahmed Latheef, a resident of Hodavada village in Kodagu district. He had concealed the cut pieces of gold jewellery in the left side pocket of his trousers. He had wrapped the gold jewellery cut pieces in silver coloured foils and concealed in the pockets. We have seized gold jewellery worth Rs 11.57 lakh. He had come to come to Bengaluru in Gulf Airlines, said an official.

In another case, Customs sleuths seized gold worth Rs 12.68 lakh during rummaging a Colombo bound flight in city. The customs officials said that two pieces of gold bars were found in the hollow pipe below the seat of an Indigo flight which arrived to Bengaluru on Wednesday.
