Vasco: A stock of confiscated lighters kept outside the old terminal building at Dabolim airport caught fire late on Tuesday night.
Airport sources told TOI that the lighters were seized from passengers during checks by either CISF or airlines staff. “They were kept there for a long time. As all operations have been shifted to the new terminal, the old terminal was abandoned,” a source said.
Vasco fire station fire officer Francisco Mendes said two fire tenders were rushed to the old terminal building. Navy fire tenders and personnel doused the fire before the Vasco fire tenders could reach the site. The cause of fire is being investigated. “It is possible with lighters. Even the slightest friction can ignite fire in lighters,” said Mendes
