IGI airport: Six satellite phones caught in 58 days

New Delhi: CISF, responsible for security at Delhi’s IGI Airport, has confiscated six satellite phones — four from foreigners and two from Indian citizens — from July 1 to August 27.

As per a CISF senior official, there is a clear rule that bans the use of satellite phones. In cases of foreigners coming with valid documents permitting them to carry such phones, the Indian authorities reserve the right to deny.
As per a Delhi Police official, most of the international passengers coming to India with satellite phones have a common answer: as they have to travel to Himalayas and interior parts of India for tourism where communication signals are not good, they requrie a satellite phone.
