Kannur airport all set for trial landing ahead of inauguration

Kannur:  The trial landing at Kannur International Airport, using a Boeing 737/800 aircraft from Air India Express, will be held on Thursday morning. This is a major step before the inauguration of the airport scheduled for October end, as the commercial aircraft is landing here for the first time, said the officials.

The aircraft will depart from Thiruvananthapuram airport by 9am and reach Kannur by 9.45am, said an official press release.

“Though the airport is ready for commercial operation, the final license would be issued after the trial landing using a commercial aircraft, because this is a Greenfield airport,” said an official with KIAL.

This is a proving flight for the DVOR approach procedure check, and there will be a total of six approaches; three each at the 07 and 25 ends of the runway. It will also perform a docking trial, by docking with one of the Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) in the airport apron, according to KIAL.
