Normalcy restored at Raipur Airport

Raipur: The normalcy has been restored at Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur from Saturday evening. Hit by lightning, the operations at Swami Vivekananda Airport had to be suspended since Friday evening. The air traffic was suspended from the airport and was expected to resume from 12 Noon on Saturday, but since the damage due to lighting was major, it took another seven hours approximately to resume operations. However, the normal flight services from the airport will resume from Sunday morning onwards.

Talking to The Hitavada, R S Sahay, Airport Director, Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, said after a severe lightning yesterday evening at 6 pm, Doppler Very High Frequency Air (DVOR), an instrument critical for aircraft to navigate in the air was damaged. Consequently four flights (2 Jet Airways and 2 Indigo) were cancelled yesterday. A team from Central Head Quarters (CHQ), New Delhi, was deputed to assist the local officials and the instrument was restored wef 6:45pm today. Today total five flights including 3 Indigo and 2 Jet Airways were cancelled.
