Surat: Come October, Surat airport will be made operational for 24 hours a day seven days a week for catering to domestic as well as international passengers.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of deploying additional staff for managing the airport 24 hours and paving the way for international operations with Air India Express planning to connect Surat with Sharjah.
Official sources said the work on setting up customs, immigration counter and deployment of additional security staff is in the process and will be done in a month’s time. For international operations, the time slot has been approved from 12:30am to 5am.
Airport director Sanjay Kumar Panigrahi told TOI, “Things have been put on a fast track for making Surat airport operational for 24 hours. We are expecting that additional staff will be sanctioned September-end. We are targeting to make the airport operational 24 hours much before October 28.”
