Private bus fares go north; airlines offer discounts

Bengaluru: While it's good news for those taking the aerial route to travel, bus passengers are set to feel the price pinch. Airlines like IndiGo, GoAir and AirAsia have announced massive discounts for flight fares on domestic and international routes. On the other hand, private bus operators have decided to increase fares on inter-city routes due to record rise in fuel prices.

While IndiGo, which operates the maximum domestic flights, announced a festive sale of tickets starting from Rs 999 for travel between September 12 and March 30. The special fares will apply for 10 lakh seats to 59 destinations for those who book till September 7. AirAsia India is also offering flight tickets starting from Rs 999 on select routes like Bengaluru-Kochi and Bengaluru-Chennai from February 18, 2019 to November 26, 2019.

Jet Airways is offering 30% discount on base fare on select domestic routes. GoAir has also offered all-inclusive special fare starting at Rs 1,099 for flights from September 3 to March 31 for those who booked between September 3 and 5. The offers have reduced domestic fares by more than 50% across all sectors for travel in September and October. Fares to destinations like Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Chennai and Hyderabad from Bengaluru, which were in the price band of Rs 4,000 and above, have now come down to Rs 1,300 to Rs 3,000 for mid-September and October.
