SpiceJet in talks to buy A330neo planes

Mumbai: Low fare carrier SpiceJet is in talks with Airbus to buy its A330neo wide bodied planes, said two people in the know, indicating that the airline is firming up plans to fly long haul international routes such as Europe.
Earlier this month, a team of six top executives at the European plane-maker flew down from its headquarters in Toulouse, France to meet the senior management of SpiceJet, led by chairman Ajay Singh, at its office in Gurugram, near Delhi. This was the second of such meetings in as many months, said one of the people cited above who didn’t want to be named.
Neither SpiceJet nor Airbus could be reached for comment.
The people cited above didn’t specify the number of planes being considered by SpiceJet. The A330neo is list priced at $260 million (`1,872 crore) and will be pressed into commercial service later this year by TAP Air Portugal. It can have close to 300 seats in a two class — economy and business — configuration.
