VVIP safety hangs in air with inexperienced pilots at helm

VVIPs of the state-—including the CM and the governor—are all set to travel in state planes to be flown by under-qualified pilots. After resignation of four experienced pilots, the three selected by the civil aviation department, do not have experience in flying the aircraft the government has.

UP government has two types of planes—Hawkers and the Super King Air—which was handled largely by the four pilots who have resigned—Pankaj Singh, GPS Walia, Pravin Kishore and Kamleshwar Singh. They were so experienced that they had been elevated to the rank of DGCA examiners, too. Now, due to shortage of pilots—just four remaining after resignation of the four—one of two Super King aircraft has been grounded.

To fill up this sudden shortfall, the state government conducted three interviews, but did not find any suitable candidates so before the fourth interview, the department allegedly compromised on the experience and the qualification to recruit three pilots.
