Mohali: The Zirakpur municipal council (MC) on Monday demolished nine illegal structures out of the 430 residential and commercial establishments falling within the radius of 100 metres from the boundary wall of the Indian Air Force (IAF) station in Zirakpur.
The drive at a godown area in Bhabat village was halted for about two hours after owners of the buildings protested against the action that came following the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court to the Mohali administration to submit an action taken report on illegal structures near the airport. The MC razed structures whose pictures were presented by the IAF in the court while mentioning the security threat to the defence installation.
The MC had pasted notices directing defaulters to demolish the illegal structures or produce valid documents within three days.
