Air India ground staff threaten strike over bus service

Mumbai: About 2,000 Air India ground employees who work at the Mumbai airport and its hangars in Santacruz Kalina have threatened to go on a strike if the airline stops bus service it provides as part of their service contract.

Before the start of every shift, Air India buses ply from railway stations ferrying Air India employees to the airport or Kalina and then back after the completion of the shift.

"We propose to go on strike the day the transports are cancelled," said a notice sent by the Air Corporation Employees Union, a recognized Air India union, to airline management on Thursday.

The letter alleged the airline held no talks with the unions before deciding to withdraw the employees' transport services.
