Air India to launch six new flights

New Delhi: Air India will launch six new flights this month to New York, Frankfurt, London, Bangkok and Jaipur as part of its plans to better utilise its aircraft, some of which have been lying idle for the past several months due to lack of funds for their maintenance.

The airline will introduce a flight each on the Kolkata-Bangkok and Kolkata-Jaipur sectors from October 15. With effect from October 16, the airline will start flights on the Bangalore-Bangkok, Bangalore-London and Mumbai-Frankfurt routes.

Mumbai will also get a direct flight to New York from October 28, which will be a six-day service. This will be the second destination in the US after Newark with a direct flight from Mumbai.
Air India is able to add these new routes after making some of the grounded aircraft operational by replacing engines and other components and re-working its network planning to enhance utilisation of planes.
The airline has been able to make one of the three Boeing 787s grounded for the past three to five months airborne after replacing its engines. This will now deployed on Mumbai-Frankfurt route.
