Domestic airlines flew 19% more passengers in September

New Delhi: The domestic airlines flew 1.14 crore passengers in September this year, registering a growth of close to 19 per cent over the 95.83 lakh passengers flown by the industry during the same period previously.

The latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation shows that IndiGo retained the number one position having flown 49.20 lakh passengers in September this year.

Jet Airways which flew 16.13 lakh passengers in September took the second spot while SpiceJet which carried 13.63 lakh passengers came third . Air India (Domestic) flew 13.45 lakh passengers followed by GoAir (9.89 lakh), AirAsia (4.98 lakh) and Vistara (4.36 lakh).

SpiceJet, however, occupied the top spot when it comes to recording the highest Passenger Load Factor (PLF) of 93.2 per cent among all domestic airlines in September this year. Passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled.

GoAir which reported a PLF of 90.6 per cent took the second spot while both Vistara and Jet Airways reported a PLF of 84.9 per cent, jointly taking the third spot.

GoAir reported the best on-time performance (OTP) among all the airlines at 90.4 per cent at the four metro airports of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. SpiceJet at 89.1 per cent took the second position followed by IndiGo (87.6 per cent), Jet Airways and Jet Lite (86.6 per cent), Vistara (85.9 per cent) and Air India (Domestic) (74.3 per cent).
