Entry may be made free for airport drops

Ahmedabad: Picture this. You head to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport to drop a friend, take the parking ticket and get in. On your way out, you are in queue at the parking toll booth and pay Rs 85, as the exit duration reads – 10 minutes and 3 seconds. Really? Pay for a three-second delay? The situation does resonate with most frequent flyers or their kin and leaves them annoyed. In a major relief to people commuting the airport more frequently, airport authorities are all likely to do away with this practice.

A proposal for this has been recently moved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to implement the new plan, confirmed a source. “The attempt is to ensure smooth transition for the commuters.”

It is understood that under the new format, nominal charges may be levied only on those vehicles that are parked in the designated parking space. “The booths issuing entry tickets that are currently placed near the entry point of both the terminals, are proposed to be reallocated and placed near the designated parking space,” said a source, privy to the development.
