Navi Mumbai airport levelling may miss deadline

Navi Mumbai:  Levelling of the Navi Mumbai airport land at 5.5 metres may miss its December-end deadline as 50% of the villagers in the vicinity are refusing to vacate their homes for the project, say Cidco and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL). plan is to further level it up by another 2.5 m.
The blasting of Ulwe hill and levelling of land has been marred by protests. As many have not vacated the 10 core villages, both works would be hit. “In that case, 30% of the core area work will get affected,” said sources. Ulwe river diversion, too, has to be completed before next monsoon.
