Rs 3.84cr worth currencies seized

Trichy: The air intelligence unit of customs seized foreign currencies equivalent to Rs 3.84 crore from two passengers at the Trichy International Airport on Friday.
According to officials, this was the biggest ever currency seizure made at an airport in Tamil Nadu. The accused have been identified as Zakir Hussain of Ilayankudi of Sivagangai and Tajudeen of Chennai.
Assistant commissioner of customs K Jayakumar told reporters that based on a tip-off, officials maintained tight surveillance in the scanning area of the departure hall. They spotted two passengers who were to board a Kuala Lumpur-bound AirAsia flight in the early hours of Friday, he said.
