Visakhapatnam: A new international flight from Visakhapatnam to Bangkok, Thailand, is scheduled to be launched from December 16, according to sources in the airline industry. Thai AirAsia — a joint venture of Malaysian low-fare airline AirAsia and Thailand’s Asia Aviation — will launch its direct services from the Visakhapatnam international airport to Bangkok’s Don Mueang international airport.
Bangkok will be the fifth international destination to be directly connected from Visakhapatnam, after Singapore, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Colombo. The Thai AirAsia flight to Bangkok is likely to operate three times a week (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays).
“A lot of people from Visakhapatnam travel to Bangkok either for vacation or for shopping. Until now, people had to travel to Hyderabad, Chennai or Kolkata to take a connecting flight to Bangkok. The distance to Bangkok from Chennai or Hyderabad is more than 2,200 kms whereas the distance from Visakhapatnam to Bangkok is only 1,905 kms. With this service from the city airport, tourists can save a lot of time,” said K Vijay Mohan, president of the Tours and Travels Association of Andhra (TTAA).
