In a late night development, Jet Airways announced the resignation of its board member and former diplomat Ranjan Mathai as an independent director due to "increasing pressure on his time from other commitments".
Mathai communicated to the airline that he was not able to devote enough time required to discharge his obligations towards the company due to his other existing commitments, including academics.
“I am no longer able to devote the time required to meet my obligations as an independent director on the Board of Jet Airways, and have accordingly decided to resign from the Board," he apparently wrote to the airline, a year after he joined the Board of Directors in 2017.
Mathai is the second board member to quit after former Shell CEO Vikram Mehta resigned a few days ago. Mehta had cited similar reasons.
"The company acknowledges the contribution of Mr Mathai and expresses its appreciation for his commitment to the company in his capacity as a member of the Board," said the Naresh Goyal-promoted airline in a statement.
